Design Technology
DT AT ST PAUL’S
At St. Paul’s, we aim to provide a high-quality Design & Technology education that inspires pupils to use creativity and imagination when designing and making products. Children are encouraged to solve real and relevant problems in a variety of contexts through investigation and evaluation.
The Design & Technology curriculum at St. Paul’s is structured around six key elements:
- Food and Nutrition
- Structures
- Mechanisms
- Textiles
- Electrical systems
- Understanding materials
Children in Early Years are encouraged to work with enquiry about how things work. Children investigate different techniques for joining and connecting materials and use a variety of tools.
In Key Stage 1, children develop their ideas through Design & Technology lessons, learning to design, make, and evaluate their own projects. Pupils explore topics including Food and Nutrition, Mechanisms, and Materials.
In Key Stage 2, children further develop their knowledge and skills across the six elements of Design & Technology. They apply their creativity to projects using specific design criteria, create prototypes, experiment with a variety of tools, and consolidate skills acquired in earlier years.
