At St. Paul’s CE Primary School we believe that every child matters and we are committed to offering an inclusive, broad and balanced curriculum for all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities so that they are able to learn without limits. As parents and carers, there are many questions you may have about what our school is able to do to meet your child’s needs when choosing a school for your child. We aim to answer many questions about how school will contribute to the Local Authority Local Offer, but should you have any other questions please contact: our SENDCO Mrs Stryker.

INCLUSION BASES: ASPIRE, THE HIVE AND THE NEST
In line with the Department for Education's 2026 guidance, an Inclusion Base is a specialist provision within a mainstream school that provides targeted support for children and young people who require additional help to access learning, develop relationships, and participate fully in school life. Inclusion Bases may support pupils with SEND, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural or pastoral needs, low attendance, or those at risk of exclusion. The purpose of an Inclusion Base is not to separate pupils from their peers, but to provide the right support at the right time while maintaining a strong connection to mainstream education wherever possible.
The DfE guidance highlights that Inclusion Bases should be part of a continuum of provision, enabling children to remain connected to their mainstream class and school community. For some pupils this may involve short-term support and a gradual return to full-time classroom learning, while others may require longer-term provision alongside mainstream inclusion opportunities. The overarching aim is to promote belonging, inclusion, participation, and positive outcomes for every child, ensuring they can achieve academically, socially, and emotionally within their local mainstream school.
At St Paul’s we offer 3 Inclusion Bases. Our Inclusion Bases provide a nurturing, structured environment where pupils can receive personalised support, develop confidence, build independence, and work towards individual outcomes. Support may include targeted interventions, emotional regulation strategies, pastoral support, therapeutic approaches, and academic provision tailored to individual needs. Access to an Inclusion Base is based on assessed need and is regularly reviewed to ensure pupils receive the support necessary to thrive.
Aspire
Aspire provides targeted academic support for pupils in Key Stage 2 who require a more structured and focused approach to close gaps in learning and make accelerated progress.
The Nest
The Nest supports pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs who require additional, structured support to regulate, engage and access learning successfully.
The Hive
The Hive provides specialist support for pupils with significant and complex needs, including cognition and learning difficulties and communication and interaction needs.
